What after JEE Advanced? What are your options?
We are here to answer all of your questions.
Once the results are announced, you will get to know about the qualifying cutoff which is the minimum amount of marks that you need to be eligible for IITs. JoSAA counseling will start after the declaration of results wherein students will have to fill choices of institutes and streams based on their preferences. A seat will be allocated to you based on your rank and preferences. This process consists of two mock allocation rounds followed by six main rounds. Check out the stream-wise cutoff for top IITs here & here.
If not IIT then what?
Those of you who still are on the fence about getting into an IIT can back up your plans by applying to NITs and IIITs. There are 31 NITs and 25 IIITs to apply to. You can check the cutoff of NITs, and the different streams they offer, here. The counseling process to be followed for this is the same as for IITs.
Is there any other option?
Yes, there is. You can go for state rounds. Many respectable colleges’ admissions come under state counseling rounds. The majority of states held their own counseling rounds like MH DTE for Maharashtra, DTE MP for Madhya Pradesh, TNEA for Tamil Nadu, AP EAMCET for Andhra Pradesh, etc. The details for these could be accessed from their respective websites.
Are you still unsure?
If you still are unsure about your college, unhappy with your result, or determined on getting into an IIT or a better college, you could consider taking a drop year. Though it is a big decision, you could avoid being unhappy in a suboptimal college or field. Dropping a year now is better than giving four years of your life to a place you don’t enjoy learning. You should weigh all pros and cons of your decision of dropping a year before actually going forward with it. You could watch this to clear your doubts regarding this.
What after allocation of seats?
Following the allocation of seats, you could decide to freeze/ float/ slide/ withdraw.
Freeze: If you are happy with your allocated seat and do not want to take part in the further counseling process, then you could go for this option.
Float: If you want to participate in the subsequent rounds to upgrade your seat while keeping your allocated seat, you should opt for this option.
Slide: If you want to upgrade to a different course within your allocated institute, this is your option.
Withdraw: This choice gives you the right to give up your allocated seat.
All the best!
