10 Smart Counselling Tips (The Margdarshan Checklist)
1. Apply to ALL Counselings
Do not limit yourself to JoSAA. Apply to JoSAA, JAC Delhi, and at least one state portal (AKTU/MP/REAP) simultaneously.
2. Home State is Your Shield
Check the Home State (HS) vs Other State (OS) cutoffs. In some NITs, the rank difference can be as high as 20,000.
3. CSAB is Volatile
CSAB Special Rounds are for vacant seats. Seats in top NITs often open up to lower ranks due to late IIT withdrawals.
4. The Diploma Route
A 3-year government polytechnic diploma + lateral entry into 2nd year B.Tech provides the same degree at 10% of the cost.
5. Verify NIRF vs Reality
Use NIRF rankings for academic quality, but verify **Median Salary** data from the last 3 years for placement reality.
6. JoSAA Choice Order
Always fill your "Dream Colleges" at the top, even if your rank is lower. JoSAA allocates top-to-bottom based on availability.

Freeze: You accept the seat and college and want no further changes. Float: You accept the seat but want a better branch in *any* college in the next round. Slide: You accept the seat but want a better branch in the *same* college only.

Yes. However, if you are allotted a new seat in CSAB, your previous JoSAA seat will be cancelled automatically. You cannot go back to the old seat once a new one is allotted.
