JEE Mains 2021:Best Books for Physics, Important topics for JEE Main, Topic Weightage and Preparation Tips

To prepare for IIT JEE 2021, you need a combination of several books. Candidates are expected to have a thorough understanding of the questions for JEEE Mains and advance. Moreover, there will be 90 questions which the candidate will have to solve in 3 hours. Also, for that, they need accuracy and a profound understanding of all the concepts. Many reference books can help candidates in understanding things better.  You should commence your preparation by going through the NCERT books as it will help you to clearing the basic concepts. Apart from NCERT the other books you can prefer given below.

Things to keep in mind while buying physics books for JEE Main 2021 preparation:

  • Check JEE Main 2021 syllabus. Your set of books must include accurate material for concept building, and questions with varying difficulty levels.
  • Go for the latest editions and ensure that they follow the latest exam pattern.
  • NCERT textbooks should always be your priority.
  • It is advisable to not go for too many books at a time. Stick to a few reliable sources and prepare accordingly.
  • Make sure your books have previous year question paper and solved- unsolved sample papers.

JEE Main 2021 Physics Important Topics

Physics is one of the major sections of JEE Main syllabus. Students have to answer around 25 questions carrying 4 marks each. JEE Main April syllabus for Physics comprises topics like Kinematics, Optics, Laws of Motion, Rotational Motion, Gravitation, Properties of Solids and Liquids etc. Last year, the highest weightage in Physics was given to topics like current electricity, alternating current, Rotational dynamics, Modern Physics etc. The JEE Main Physics syllabus includes two sections A and B. Section A includes Theory part with 80% weightage and section B contains practical component (experimental skills) with 20% weightage.

Important points to keep in mind when buying books for physics IIT JEE:

  • Don’t undermine the NCERTs. Read the NCERT chapters thoroughly, solved examples and summary is of great help. NCERT textbooks are written by a team of authors who are all experts in their area.

  • Checkout the list of best books for IIT JEE preparation that are mentioned above. The idea is to understand the theory behind some of the more advanced topics that may not be covered in the NCERT textbooks.
  • HC Verma (Pros):HC Verma Physics textbooks are ideal for the learning phase due to the simple use of language and detailed explanations supported by relevant illustrations. Since JEEpredominantly tests the conceptual understanding of students, those referring to HC Verma books will benefit immensely. Also, HC Verma Physics books come with solutions. The HC Verma Solutions Part 1 is the best book for Work and Energy, Rotational Mechanics and Newton’s Law of Motion. HC Verma Solutions Part 2 is the best book for topics like Thermodynamics, Magnetic effects of Current and magnetism and Kinetic Theory of gases.

  • HC Verma(Cons): HC Verma books do not have enough numerical problems from the IIT-JEE point of view. They are good to build a strong foundation and to gain conceptual clarity, but they do not give JEE Main aspirants the kind of rigorous practice they require to crack the exam. Also, these books have been written for general Science students and not for students preparing for JEE Main who need to master concepts through application.

  • During the practice and revision phases of your JEE preparation, you may find that DC Pandey books are more reliable.

  • DC Pandey (Pros): If you are an aspiring IITian, these books are right for you. The Physics textbook by DC Pandey is written specifically with the JEE aspirant in mind. So, this book attempts to explain concepts in a way that is more practical for students answering competitive exams like JEE Main and Advanced. Also, this textbook by DC Pandey has a plethora of questions which meet JEE standards and enable students to get enough practice so as to improve speed and accuracy.

  • DC Pandey(cons):This book does not explain concepts as lucidly as the NCERT Textbooks or books by HC Verma. So, this is not a book with which you begin your IIT-JEE preparation. Doing such a thing may leave you utterly confused. It may also prevent you from deeply understanding the enigmatic concepts of Physics

  • Irodov: If we look at a breakdown of any JEE Advanced/Main paper you'll see that - 15% of the questions are very tough. 15% are easy. The rest 70% of the questions will be of just above average difficulty level, which is way below the level of Irodov. These 70% of the questions are your best allies. You need to target these if you want to clear your exam comfortably. Most of the people don't know how to prepare for their exams and they end up coming way short of what we could expect from them. Don't let this happen to you; be smart and make prudent decisions. It’s suitable for students preparing for Olympiad.

TIPS FOR PREPARATION ACCORDING TO TIME:

11th, Starting with basics, a beginner.

Plenty of time in hand.

HC Verma vol. 1 + one can refer to Halliday for some in-depth knowledge.

12th beginning, most of the portion covered for JEE main from 11th standard.

1 year left

HC Verma Vol. 2 though roughly and Halliday to prepare for JEE Advanced as reference. Students can use Amit Gupta to focus simply on JEE.

12th, most of the portion covered and less time left in hand.

6 months left
