CSAB 2020: 10 Things to be remembered in CSAB counseling

CSAB stand for “Central Seat Allocation Board”. For those students whose rank is not good enough and still wants admission in premier institutions should definitely participate in CSAB special round counselling. CSAB was Central Counselling Board (CCB) before 2013. Over the decision of a joint counselling procedure, JoSAA was set up. The role of CSAB is limited to counselling of specific institutes only.”. It is an agency constituted by the Ministry of HRD. CSAB entrusted with the responsibility of admission for the various undergraduate courses offered by the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs or Triple-I-Ts) and a few other technical Institutes funded fully or partially by Central or a State government (Other-GFTIs). These Institutes are collectively referred to as NIT+ Institutes.

Things to remember in CSAB:

  • CSAB Authority

It has the authority to provide admissions for students in various engineering programmes of different institutes such as IIITs, NITs, and GFTIs. The admissions are mainly done on the basis of the JEE Main scores obtained by the candidates. You can prefer colleges on the basis of education quality, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity. This is where NIRF Rankings can be considered.

  1. Student must have qualified JEE Main with valid rank.
  2. Student who are not allotted any seat in JoSAA or who do not participate in JoSAA counselling can participate in CSAB special round for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs 2020.
  • Difference between Josaa and CSAB

JoSAA is different from CSAB in terms of its admission counselling sessions. When JoSAA completes its admission process for seat filling in IITs, NITs and other colleges, it is time for CSAB. Then, CSAB conducts some special rounds of interviews to fill the vacant seats in those institutes.

  • CSAB 2020 Participation Process

Only the candidates registered will be considered for the CSAB 2020 seat allotment process. Candidates must remember that along with completing the CSAB 2020 registration and filling up the application form, they must also submit the requisite Participation/Processing Fee and participate in the choice filling process.

  • Various seat quotas of institutes that are considered under JoSAA 2020

 It has the following seat quotas:

  • All India Quota: Candidates across the country will be eligible for this seat quota
  • Home State Quota: Candidates who will have their state code of eligibility same as the state/ union territory in which the Institute is located will be eligible for this seat quota
  • Other State Quota: Candidates whose state of eligibility is NOT same as the state/ union territory in which the Institute is located will be considered under this seat quota.
  • Reservation quotas in CSAB-

There are 5% of seats reserved for female candidates under all the participating educational institutes. In many NITs, 50% of seats are reserved under Home State and the rest of them under Other State quotas

  • CSAB NEUT Counselling

Apart from CSAB 2020 Counselling, another process called CSAB NEUT Counselling is conducted for candidates of North East and Union Territories who are allotted certain reserved seats.

  • Subjects for calculation of 75% aggregate mark

Following five subjects will be used for calculation of 75% aggregate marks (65% marks for SC, ST, and PwD).

  1. Mathematics,
  2. Physics,
  3. One subject out of Chemistry/Biology/Biotech/Technical Vocational Subject
  4. One language,
  5. One other subject
  • Multiple Candidates with the same rank

If there are multiple candidates with the same rank seeking admission to the same academic program? All the candidates will be given equal preference, in such a case. If required, supernumerary seats will be created.

  • Scenario if you didn’t lock before last day

If you haven't locked the choices before the last date, your last choices will be locked automatically and get submitted on final date, after the time for choice locking is completed.

Therefore, you should carefully complete the choice filling and locking within the specified dates.

  • Dual reporting

It is a situation when a candidate has secured two seats. Suppose an aspirant has accepted an NIT Seat in the round 1 of the counselling process and has accepted a seat in another institute as well. He/ She must report to the institute that is considered an up-gradation. Failing to do so will result in the candidate losing all the seats.

  • Possibility of having a candidate’s name in one or more rank lists

 It is very much possible to appear in more than one rank list. It depends on your category and physical disability status. It exists along with your performance in the entrance exam, there are chances that you may appear in more than one rank list and a maximum of four rank lists in each of JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams.

  • To get back the refund from CSAB SFTI:

If the seat allotment process is completed finally, then the aspirants would not get back the amount. However, if no seat is allotted in a special round, then the applicants would get back the participation fee after deducting 1000 INR
