CBSE Class 12th Marking Scheme| CBSE Latest News on Marking Scheme

After the historic take of C.B.S.E on the 1st of June 2021 on cancelling class 12th board exams, the students were all inquisitive about how they are going to be evaluated now and when would C.B.S.E class 12 result will be declared. The wait is over, as the 12-member committee set by the Education Ministry to develop robust and fair criteria of evaluation has finally come out with their 12th class marking scheme. The attorney general presented the scheme in front of the Supreme Court on 17th June 2021. After listening to the attorney general, the supreme court declared to pass the final orders on the same on 21st June 2021.

Now you all must be on the edges of your seats to know exactly what’s in the marking scheme. So, here is a detailed explanation of the scheme proposed by the committee for the Class 12th evaluation.

Highlights of the new scheme

  • According to the scheme, class 12th result will be developed from the performance of students in class 10th, 11th and 12th by far. The committee referenced a ratio of 30:30:40 for class 10th, 11th and 12th contribution to the result. The only theory part of the exam will be evaluated by these criteria.
  • 30% proportion will be from the average of best three subject's theory score in class 10th final exams.
  • 30% proportion will be from class 11th final exams theory result.
  • 40% proportion will be from class 12th unit/sessional/pre-board exams theory result.
  • Practical marks will be based on the 12th class only.
  • The schools are guided to set a committee headed by the principal and two PGT teachers to determine the result for their school students.
  • The result is said to be out by 31st July 2021 and Supreme Court has ordered the committee to come out with a strong grievance redressal pattern for the students.
  • The students unsatisfied with the results will be given the option to appear for a physical exam after the COVID conditions become conducive.

Benefits

The scheme is developed by reliable think tanks of the education ministry, so we cannot simply rule it out. Apart from helping avoid physical exams in these dreadful conditions, the scheme also has some more benefits:

  • Three academic years of a student will be considered for evaluation, the students who couldn’t perform well during a pandemic can be backed by their previous better results.
  • The inclusion of theory scores only makes it more credible as knowledge is kept as the base of evaluation.
  • The choice of appearing for the physical exam for students not contended with the result opens the door for normal evaluation as well.

Loopholes

It is practically impossible to create a scheme that is foolproof and is acceptable to all. The C.B.S.E  class 12 marking scheme is also confronting criticism due to the following reasons:

  • Usually, some students, especially those preparing for engineering and medical entrances do not pay much attention to the scoring in class 11th. The scheme will thus degrade the potential score they could get through the normal pattern.
  • The scheme seems unfair to students who worked really hard this year but doesn’t have a good scoring in class 10th and 11th.
  • Evaluation by schools makes the process prone to alterations at various platforms.
  • No concrete process is provided regarding rationalization or moderation of the scores.
  • A robust strategy to redress the resentments is missing in the scheme.

What students should do now?

The scheme is not yet finalized completely and is subjected to many changes. So students must not panic until the official results are out. Also, after the 12th class result declaration, the option of appearing for a physical exam after the pandemic conditions become facilitative is always open if you are not happy with the evaluation. So, students must keep their focus on their further preparations for various entrance exams.

Conclusion

The marking scheme for C.B.S.E 12 Class has launched another wave of uncertainty, worries, hopes and concerns. The only and best option is to patiently wait for things to get fully transparent and to trust the democratic powers residing in the nation.
